Galaxie Traductions was founded in April 1999 by Marie Ducros, a medical imaging technician, also a contributor at medical congresses, and Jean-Louis Avril, a translator of some repute who has been acting as Technical Manager of Eltra from 1983 to 2000 and has translated books on nuclear fuel (into English) for the CEA, on linear integrated circuits (into French) for Texas Instruments, and on Arabo-Sassanian coinage (into English). Mr Avril has also been virtually the sole translator of the Alcatel Telecommunications Review for some twenty years, until the French version was discontinued in early 2003.

Galaxie Traductions initially focused on the two language combinations in most demand in France (English <> French) but was persuaded by some of its customers into handling translation work in languages that were not mastered in-house. Therefore we had to tackle the challenging problem of quality control of texts written in unfamiliar languages.

In this respect, it is important to note that Galaxie Traductions® is a translation enterprise, not an agency. We dot not apply a trial-and-error approach to quality control, and we maintain truly collaborative links with our outside colleagues.
Our products (translations) are not "personal". Each member of the team contributes to delivery of optimum translations.

The company maintains several in-house databases, including one providing access to over 3000 technical dossiers, and a standards database. We have an account with AFNOR.

It is not our practice to set up a host of mechanisms for compensating for the weaknesses of each individual member of the team. Instead, we make sure that those we identified as the best possible do give of their best. Only this way can quality be provided at reasonable prices.

FTP site

We currently have 250 MB of FTP storage space. This storage capacity is scalable and adjustable within a day by simple request to the supplier/hoster/webmaster of our web site www.galaxie-traductions.com. This enables us to receive and send files of various sizes directly from and to our customers or outside colleagues without having to worry about the sluggishness of common channels, geographical distance being thus made irrelevant and responsiveness becoming the main focus.

Confidentiality

Everyone we work with has signed a non-disclosure agreement.
All the documents we receive remain on our premises and are given to the translator(s) only after receipt of the order. In the absence of an order, they are destroyed.
